Your Engagement Session

For Her

I suggest a loose fitting, flowing summer type dress or skirt (even in the fall or spring), preferably with elbow length sleeves.

Maybe a light button up sweater if your dress is sleeveless. Bare arms are distracting no matter how trim you might be.

Also, beware of too tight & too thin sweaters.

I strongly advise against tight, short skirts, regardless of how nice and cute you look in them, it's just too edgy for engagement portraits and not the image we want for you to have hanging on your walls for years to come.

if you really have an aversion to skirts or dresses, jeans and a sweater works well, please just not too tight. It severly limits posing options.

Shoes: Sandals are fine, but we often toss them anyway, any time of year as most times one can't tell whether we are shooting in the spring, summer, or autumn. Unless we are going for the seasonal look. Cold, maybe...you'll warm up.

Subdued colors and patterns are best. Must work and blend with his outfit too. AVOID contrasty tones...like black & white...red & white. Too much...people will notice the clothes first, not what we want for a successful portrait.

For Him

Slacks or jeans are good, neat yet comfortable.

Long sleeved button down shirt works well, we will likely roll sleeves up. Please iron or have them freshly pressed.

Again, subdued colors and patterns are best.

Together

We’re looking for low contrast tonal harmony within your entire collection of colors on both outfits as they work together.

If she is going for dark tones throughout, don’t choose the guy’s outfit to be light toned.

Conversely, if she (or he) is wearing light tones, don’t match it with the guy’s outfit (dark).

Locations

Due to extremely limited weekend openings, our engagement sessions will be scheduled for weekday early mornings or evenings...approximately one hour prior to sunset.

Also due to our heavy shooting and work schedule, engagement sessions that are included in wedding packages will still be free provided they are performed in either of our studios. One studio is in downtown Olympia at the Grand Holiday Ballroom, the other is on the west side of Olympia.

Any alternate locations will incur a base fee of $75 for in town and $150 outside Olympia proper, and must be arranged a minimum of one week in advance.
